Glen Frost’s Takeaways:

The IRS has provided critical, wide-ranging tax relief for numerous Virginia counties impacted by storms, pushing most deadlines that would have fallen within the affected period to November 3, 2025.

  • Who is Covered: The relief is automatic for taxpayers with an IRS address of record within the disaster area. Crucially, it can also cover those who live elsewhere but whose essential records are located in the affected counties.
  • Broad Scope of Relief: This postponement covers 2024 individual income tax returns (originally due April 15), as well as the estimated tax payments due in April, June, and September.
  • Automatic but Verify: While taxpayers in the covered areas do not need to call the IRS to get this relief, we advise them to confirm their county is on the official list and ensure their address with the IRS is up-to-date to prevent erroneous penalty notices.

This is a powerful form of relief, but taxpayers should always verify their specific eligibility rather than simply assuming they are covered.
